"And while I understand that you're distracted by the prospect of choosing your dates to the Celestial Ball... There will be no transfiguring frogs into princes or princesses today, as described in Muggle fairy tales."
Minerva McGonagall urging students to focus in class[src]

In the Muggle world, there were a number of fairy tales depicting frogs into princes or princesses.[1]

History[]

During the 1987–1988 school year, due to the excitement for the Celestial Ball, Minerva McGonagall referenced those fairy tales in her fourth year Transfiguration class, asking students to pay attention.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

  • In the real world, there are a lot of fairy tales fitting this depictions, notably The Frog Prince and The Frog Princess, respectively of German[2] and Russian origin, with the former having similar Scottish tales,[3][4] and the latter having notable Italian and Greek variants.[5]
