Mysterious Signal MA

The Mysterious Signal was a radio signal present at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry that could be picked up by selecting the right code on a Wizardry Radio.[1]

Broadcasts[]

0529[]

Edgar insisted we embark on our venture the next stormy night.
I, for one, thought it was a dreadful idea.
But the tales of treasures hidden in the depths of the Black Lake had everyone in a fervour.
I must admit, a bit of treasure would be most welcome.
We've been practising our Bubble-Head Charms for months.
Lumos, too.
As Edgar mentioned it would be pitch dark down there.
We are to rendezvous at the docks after curfew.
I'm a bit unnerved.

6012[]

The murky waters of the Black Lake stirred ominously as the rain poured down.
Every fibre of my being urged me to turn back, but Edgar was adamant.
He even showed me his Mokeskin pouch, promising it would hold all the treasures we might uncover.
He assured me of his presence should anything go awry, comparing it to a simple stroll in the greenhouse.
His main desire was simply for some company.
If anyone at Hogwarts could manage such a feat, it would be Edgar, top of every class.
Still, it's almost unbelievable that we are truly going through with this.

2660[]

The Black Lake has proven to be nothing short of wondrous.
Glowing aquatic plants, peculiar yet enchanting creatures, and ancient ruins.
Edgar appears to have an uncanny familiarity with this place.
I, however, have discreetly marked our path with personal items, lest we lose our way.
I don't think he's noticed.
We encountered a colossal vortex near some Merfolk statues.
The current was so strong that I couldn't advance any further.
Edgar, undeterred, insisted that the true treasures must lie beyond.
He assured me that together, we could overcome it and he would aid me through.
We are taking a brief respire before proceeding.
Hopefully, Edgar's Mokeskin pouch can contain all the treasures we are destined to find.

I never thought perfect beings existed.
But that changed after I met him.
He masters the most difficult spells
With such ease and grace.
He brews the most complex potions,
Flawlessly, too, on the first try.
He practises Quidditch in the scorching sun,
And in the pouring rain—
He dashes, he swings, he scores!
I'm certain Gryffindor will win the next Quidditch Cup.
With Edgar on the team,
How could they possibly lose?

3579[]

Turns out I was naive in my Quidditch predictions.
In the end, it's the Seeker who decides the match,
And Gryffindor's Seeker was too new, too nervous.
Edgar scored—more than usual, even—but it didn't matter.
I overheard them muttering,
That the game would've been in the bag if Potter were here.
One of Gryffindor's best Seekers, they said.
But Edgar wasn't part of that conversation.
He stayed away from the team, silent, withdrawn.
There was something in his gaze—
A realisation swirling just beneath the surface.

8629[]

I keep thinking about that smile Edgar had while injured.
He's not the kind of person to just walk away after a loss.
What did he realise that day on the Quidditch pitch?
That no matter how brilliant he is, victory is never his alone?
That even he could be held back by a weak link in the team?
I steel my resolve. I will not be a weak link.
I want to prove myself.
I want him to know he can always rely on me.
Maybe then...he'd be my friend.
I won't let him down.

2319[]

Another Gryffindor match,
And Edgar couldn't be part of it.
He'd been injured the day before.
We visited him in the hospital wing.
His face was pale,
But there was still a faint smile lingering at the corner of his mouth.
He told us not to blame his teammate—
the Gryffindor Seeker.
Said he couldn't have meant it.
The timing of his injury felt...off.
I couldn't put my finger on it.
His teammates told us the Seeker had collided with Edgar during practise.
They had high hopes for him in this match, but now...
Edgar left the team soon after he recovered.
So did the Seeker.
