- Jacob's sibling: "This one must have made a great lockpick. Its fingers seem particularly long!"
- Rubeus Hagrid: "Yer right! In fact, I've been callin' it Needlefingers. So far, it's the only thing we can agree on..."
- — Rubeus Hagrid to Jacob's sibling[src]
Needlefingers was a foul-tempered and untrusting Bowtruckle that Rubeus Hagrid gained ownership of when he caught him trying to unlock his trunk.
Biography[]
Needlefingers was used by unscrupulous wizarding criminals to pick locks, as it possessed very long fingers. One of these criminals was Mundungus Fletcher, who came to Hagrid's Hut demanding that Needlefingers be returned to him, or a different Bowtruckle instead, so he could sell them. Although Mundungus denied mistreating Needlefingers, it was obvious that it had been neglected and kept away from its natural environment, as it was grouchy and did not trust humans or even those of its own kind, since Bowtruckles were generally good-natured when left alone in their natural environment.[1]
Rubeus Hagrid told Jacob's sibling to talk to Needlefingers.[3] It didn't go well, but they suggested to have a sort of "Bowtruckle playdate".[3] Hagrid agreed that it was a good idea and sent Jacob's sibling to the Bowtruckle at the Magical Creatures Reserve.[3]
After the time spent with Jacob's sibling, training to become more social using its favourite food, woodlice, and trading a Screaming Yo-yo with flames on it from Argus Filch's office that Mundungus owned in his first year at Hogwarts, Needlefingers was sent to the Khanna Farms, where it joined the local branch of Bowtruckles.[2]
