- "13-YEAR-OLD Newt is already in occupation of the cupboard. He has hidden a couple of tanks here, one containing tadpoles, another Streelers. A lined cardboard box serves as a nest for the raven chick he is cradling in his hand."
- — Description[src]
Newt's Nook[2] was a cupboard inside a corridor near the Middle Courtyard.[1][2]
History[]
1890–1891 school year[]
In the 1890s
During the late 19th century, the cupboard was filled with a few armchairs, books, with murals of a centaur, a Hippogriff, and a strange draconic creature emblazoned across three of the four walls. It was clearly in use by some Hogwarts students or professors, but was otherwise used for storage, with plenty of crates and objects with dust sheets.[2]
1910–1911 school year[]
Leta and Newt in this cupboard
Sometime in 1910, Newt Scamander used it as a sanctuary and hiding place for the creatures he cared for, hence the colloquial title "Newt's Nook". He kept two Streelers, a jar of tadpoles, and one injured raven chick. Leta came in here after running away from Professor Minerva McGonagall and several students who were trying to punish her for using Oscausi on a Gryffindor girl.[1]
