This Murtlap was owned by famous Magizoologist Newton Scamander.[1]
Biography[]
In 1926, Newt Scamander went to New York to release Frank the Thunderbird back to Arizona. He also brought his suitcase, where he kept the Murtlap and other beasts with him.[1]
In New York, an American No-Maj Jacob Kowalski accidentally exchanged his suitcase with Newt's. The case journeyed with Jacob to his apartment. When Jacob curiously inspected the case, the Murtlap jumped out onto Jacob's face and bit him. In the same incident, some of Newt's magical creatures (Teddy the Niffler, an Erumpent, Dougal the Demiguise, an Occamy, and Billywigs) were able to escape from the case.[1]
Finally, Newt, aided by ex-Auror Porpentina Goldstein, arrived to retrieve the case, they discovered an injured Jacob and the Murtlap. The result was Tina took them to her apartment. At the apartment, Newt offered to show Jacob his suitcase and gave him a poultice for Murtlap bites.[1]
At some point in or before 1932, the Murtlap was moved into 9 Sherringford Square, Newt's house. In 1932, the Murtlap was climbing on the pipes at the basement while Theseus Scamander was taking care of a Qilin.[2]
