These notebooks were journals kept by Newton Scamander to record observations of magical beasts during his world-wide travels.[1]
They had brown, leatherbound covers and were bound shut with leather string. A small, white symbol with a blue border was embossed on the spine. Scamander kept various other pieces of paper in the books, most likely to act as makeshift bookmarks.[1]
