This Deathday Party was held by Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington for his 517th deathday.[1]
History[]
Sir Nicholas hired a security troll for the event and invited the portraits in the castle to attend. While he was preparing for the event in the dungeons, several students ran into him while searching for a map that could lead to a lost family heirloom. He unwittingly summoned the troll to attack the students, but they fought back and defeated it.[1] Before the party, Sir Nicholas also announced to the other ghosts that a special guest would come, though he did not in fact invite one.[3]
On 31 October, one of the said students went to the party hall, but was stopped by Simon Talmadge,[4] the ghost that guarded the doors due to them not being on the guest list. Peeves then arrived and made a scene, while the student tried to stop him. After a fight, Argus Filch came and asked about the situation before being dismissed by Sir Nicholas.[3]
The Hogwarts alumnus Ronald Weasley arrived unexpectedly and greeted the student, explaining that he was at Hogwarts to bring the Deluminator to Headmistress McGonagall for her to take another look. Sir Nicholas then introduced Ron as his special guest, mistakenly calling him "Reginald". Ron corrected him and was confused about the special guest identity, and Sir Nicholas had no choice but to tell everybody that he simply wanted everyone to be more excited by making up an inexistent special guest.[3]
During the party, Ron and the student discussed the ghosts being more gloom than usual, and the student was inspired to go around the hall and talk to them about life to cheer them up. However, the lights suddenly went out, and while Sir Nicholas tried to calm down the guests who were leaving the party, Ron gave the Deluminator to the student who opened its lid and released the light that Ron had collected on his way there, illuminating the party hall. It later turned out that it was Peeves who caused the accident, and Sir Nicholas considered him very rude since he was on the guest list. Peeves didn't know that and became even more hysterical after learning of it.[3]
The student's talk with the ghosts improved their moods visibly. Before the party came to an end, the student and Ron shared one last conversation.[3]
