"I and six other Hogwarts alumni make up the Nocturnal Order of Tricks and Magical Exhibitions. Exposing Muggles to magic has been a team effort from the start."
Elliot Evers[src]

The Nocturnal Order of Tricks and Magical Exhibitions (NOTME) was an association of seditious witches and wizards that operated in Great Britain. During the 2000s, they had been credited with a large number of blatant and deliberate displays of magic in public places.[1]

History[]

Early history[]

The Nocturnal Order of Tricks and Magic Exhibitions were founded by some alumni or then-students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Elliot Evers may have been one of them, and if not, he joined later on.[1]

By the early 2000s in the wizarding community of Great Britain, NOTME had a history of Muggle-baiting. They repeatedly caused the Ministry of Magic a lot of of trouble by orchestrating and publicly taking credit for "quite a few" illegal displays of magic in public places and in full sight of Muggles with the intent of "making magic known to all".[1]

The association had flaunted the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy so many times that the Daily Prophet even assigned them the blame for an incident where more than 400 Muggles had to have their memories modified after all the statutes in Trafalgar Square suddenly hopped off their pedestals and danced the jig, even though the group had not claimed responsibility of it. What was more, NOTME had become so notorious that anyone using magic deliberately in front of Muggles became an immediate suspect of being affiliated with them.[1]

At an unknown point, Kaleena Page used magic in front of Muggle police to stop her husband and eldest son from being arrested. The police were frightened by her, and she had violated the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy. She was arrested too and had a trial at a wizard court in the British Ministry of Magic. They accused her of being in NOTME and found her guilty, sentencing her to Azkaban.[1]

2010s[]

In 2010, an attack was initiated in Hogsmeade by Victor Gridley, strongly resembling what NOTME would've done, except that there were no Muggles who could have seen it. Linderina Crane, an employee of the Improper Use of Magic Office, was made the lead investigator of business surrounding NOTME. Her Boggart would assume the form of failing to stop the members of the organisation. Some Hogwarts students witnessed the incident in Hogsmeade, and knew that it wasn't actually done by NOTME, but when they told Crane, she refused to believe them.[1]

The attack did attract Elliot Evers, who was a then-seventh-year student at Hogwarts. Through his actions at the school, Daniel Page became suspected that he was associated with NOTME, and Elliot later confirmed the suspicion and asked Daniel to join him in his personal endeavours. It was also implied that the Siege of Hogwarts during the 2010–2011 school year was orchestrated by NOTME, who witnessed their final defeat.[1]

In the 2011–2012 school year, Daily Prophet reported that five NOTME members were arrested.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

  • The acronym is evidently a pun on the phrase "not me", in reference to how the group does not claim responsibility for its acts. Interestingly, its Chinese translation "择夜布施魔" plays on this as well, its pronunciation resembling "这也不是我", meaning "this is not me either".
