Office 34B was a room on Level 8 of the British Ministry of Magic Headquarters, and was accessed through the Atrium. It was the designated workspace of the Head of the Improper Use of Magic Office.[1]
Description[]
This office was a circular, high-ceilinged room overlooking the Atrium. Its walls were made out of pink-grey porcelain tiles, and also had small fireplace. At some point in her career in the management of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, this workspace was assigned to Dolores Umbridge. In this period, it looked almost identical to the one she would later occupy on Level 1 in her capacity as Senior Undersecretary to the Minister for Magic: the whole room was pink, from the walls to the carpets, furniture and the lace drapes that framed the windows at the back of the room. On the walls, she had hung her collection of Frolicsome Feline plates, and there were doilies and dried flowers on nearly every available surface, as well as a large, white cabinet housing a selection of teapots. There was a desk covered by a flowery cloth.[1]
History[]
During her time working in the management of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, Dolores Umbridge occupied this office.[1]
It is implied that she used this room, among other things, for the purposes of interrogating people she was suspicious of by inviting them for tea that were secretly spiked with veritaserum.[1]
During the 1990–1991 school year, Jacob's sibling from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry visited this office on the instruction of an apparently disoriented Amos Diggory while looking for someone who could provide them with the credentials necessary to participate in a student internship programme for seventh-years after they arrived late for orientation, much to Madam Umbridge's dismay.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- Due to gameplay reasons, several rooms at the Ministry shown in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery are on the same floor, but it isn't necessarily true from an in-universe standpoint due to the inconveniences it would cause if it is. Thus, it may be an unintended oversight by the game's developers. However, this particular room has to be on the same floor as the Atrium, since the player is able to access it before receiving their credentials. It is unknown, though, why Umbridge's office was situated six floors above the division she was in charge of.
