"More than this I cannot say without fear of breaching the Official Magical Secrets Act or, more importantly, the confidences that Dumbledore, most private of men, placed in me."
—Newton Scamander

The Official Magical Secrets Act was a wizarding law that prohibited the sharing of classified information.

Newton Scamander wrote in the foreword of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in 2017 that he was unable to share more information on the true nature of his relationship with Albus Dumbledore, other than a hint there was more to them than meets the eye, as he was worried he would break the act.[1]

Behind the scenes

  • This act is presumably the wizarding equivalent of the United Kingdom's Official Secrets Act which makes it illegal for someone in the security or intelligence services to disclose information they have received as part of their job without prior permission.
