The Order of Merlin was an organisation founded by Merlin in the Middle Ages. Merlin believed that wizards and witches should aid Muggles, and, thus, the Order established rules against the use of magic on them.[1] Dissolved at some point after Merlin's passing, its name lingered as a very prestigious award was named after it.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
- It is unknown when the original Order of Merlin disbanded, but it is interesting to note that, considering how the organisation was in a position to impose restrictions upon other witches and wizards in regard to whom they could use magic against, it is possible the assembly was either affiliated with or indeed might even have been a forerunner to the medieval Wizards' Council.
