An ostrich egg is the egg of an ostrich, a large flightless bird.
History[]
It was used in a drawing in Dragon Breeding for Pleasure and Profit to illustrate how large a dragon egg was.[1]
Ostrich eggs were a similar size to Occamy eggs. During the 1980s, Jacob's sibling, Charlie Weasley and Liz Tuttle used silver painted Ostrich eggs as a substitute for Occamy eggs in their plan to lure Squawk, an escaped baby Occamy, out of hiding. Though an adult creature wouldn't have been fooled, she was and the students safely captured her.[2]
During the 2008–2009 school year, Robyn Thistlethwaite got hold of an ostrich egg, which she originally believed to be the egg of an Egyptian dragon. This turned out to be not the case when the egg appeared to have been cooked rather than hatched after having been put in some hot water.[3]
