The Owl Post Office[1] was the equivalent to a Muggle post office, but with owls delivering the letters. The owls were colour-coded for short distances and long distances, and also for how fast one wanted the letter to be delivered. The Owl Post Office was used by those who did not have an owl, or did not have contact with one. The owls sent newspapers and newsletters, as well as personal letters and packages. It was said to have a putrid smell equivalent to a dungbomb.[2]
There were at least two Post Offices. Hogsmeade had an Owl Post Office[2], and there was an Office in Diagon Alley.[3]
