Pádraic Haggarty (fl. 1890s) was a wizard in the late 19th century.

Biography[]

Pádraic grew up in Irondale, with his sister Catrin. Catrin was a thief who stole off everyone, and she eventually turned to the Dark Arts, joining Victor Rookwood's gang. He was horrified and heartbroken, and suspected her of being the midnight thief in the hamlet they grew up in.^[3]^[2] He owned a shop in Irondale and was one time ambushed by Ranrok's gang.

While they were walking through Irondale, a student of Hogwarts approached Pádraic while he was working at this store. He thought were another person going to ask about Catrin to his frustration, but they didn't know about her. Pádraic told them his family's heirloom had been stolen which he held Catrin, a known thief, responsible for. He warned them to be careful because she would even steal "the eyebrows off your face", but he still upset that she would steal even from him. He wanted her to get caught and sent to Azkaban regardless of her being his sister.^[2]

They decided to help Pádraic investigate the thief who revealed the thief only steals at night. They returned to Irondale that night and tracked the thief who had dropped a trail of coins. They discovered the thief was actually a Niffler, dubbed The Irondale Pilferer, and retrieved the heirloom from its pouch. He returned to a very grateful Pádraic, who was surprised but glad to know his sister did not steal it.^[2]

Etymology[]

'Pádraic' is an alternate spelling of 'Pádraig', the Irish language form of the name 'Patrick', derived from the Latin Patricius, meaning "of the patrician class". The name also comes from Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.^[4]
