Papyrus Reparo was the incantation of a charm that could be used to mend torn pieces of paper.[1] It was a variant of the Mending Charm.
History
This spell was used by Newt Scamander in 1927 to restore a torn postcard from Tina Goldstein addressed to Queenie Goldstein. This informed Newt of Tina's whereabouts in Paris.[1]
During the 1986–1987 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Nymphadora Tonks, Jacob's sibling and Ismelda Murk all tried this spell on pieces of paper torn from a copy of Have Yourself a Fiesta in a Bottle! by Squawk, but they failed due to the rest of the book missing. Later, after the students found the rest of the pages and the cover, Jacob's sibling used this spell again and succeeded in mending the book.[2]
Etymology
Papyrus may refer to a paper-like material made from the papyrus plant; a term also used to refer to documents written on such material. Papyrus is one of the oldest forms of "paper" known, dating back to ancient Egypt.[3] Reparo is the incantation of the Mending Charm, derived from the Latin verb "I restore, or repair".[4]
