"She seized his arm again, pulled him in front of the picture of the giant fruit bowl, stretched out her forefinger, and tickled the huge green pear. It began to squirm, chuckling, and suddenly turned into a large green door handle. Hermione seized it, pulled the door open, and pushed Harry hard in the back, forcing him inside."
— Hermione Granger entering the kitchens through this painting[src]

The Pear Portrait[2] was a painting of various fruit and a fruit bowl. It served as the entrance to the kitchens in an underground corridor of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. If one tickled the pear, it laughed and turned into a door knob.[1][2]

History[]

This painting was at Hogwarts during the 1890–1891 school year.[2]

Fred and George Weasley were one of the few who knew how to enter. It is possible that they did so with the help of the Marauder's Map. In the 1994–1995 school year, they passed this information on to Hermione Granger, who entered the kitchens and met Dobby for the first time since he began working there.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

  • In the console versions of the first and second video games, a normal wooden door acted as the entrance to the kitchens.
