- — Professor Trelawney[src]
Porridge is a meal, similar to oatmeal, and is typically eaten at breakfast.[2]
History[]
The wizard in The Wizard and the Hopping Pot was about to eat porridge when he was interrupted by an old man who had lost his donkey.[3]
While a student at Hogwarts, Gilderoy Lockhart once sent himself eight-hundred Valentines, which cancelled breakfast due to so many owl feathers and droppings falling into bowls of students' porridge.[4]
Molly Weasley also often made porridge for breakfast at The Burrow.[5]
It was also served for breakfast at Hogwarts; Ron Weasley liked to pour sugar on his.[1]
In the first half of the 1995–1996 school year, when Professor Trelawney's fifth-year Divination class was studying dream interpretation, Harry Potter made up some dreams in which he was eating porridge, but according to Trelawney even these dull dreams foretold a gruesome and early death for him.[6] Later that school year, Professor Dolores Umbridge was eating porridge for breakfast, while scowling at Albus Dumbledore and Minerva McGonagall between bites, as they were discussing the article that contradicted her beliefs.[7]
Ginny Weasley also knocked over a bowl of porridge once because she saw Harry Potter (not that it was a surprise - more out of embarrassment) in her house.[5]
On Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, Lily L. Potter once told Ron Weasley that his breath smelt of porridge.[8]
In 2020, Ron Weasley was eating porridge on Hermione Granger's desk at the Ministry of Magic.[9]
