- "Sirius was the very last of the line as his younger brother, Regulus, predeceased him and both were childless. While his will makes it perfectly plain that he wants you to have the house, it is nevertheless possible that some spell or enchantment has been set upon the place to ensure that it cannot be owned by anyone other than a pure-blood."
- — Albus Dumbledore to Harry Potter in 4 Privet Drive[src]
This unidentified spell or enchantment[1] (incantation unknown) possibly existed to ensure that the ownership of a property after an owner's death was passed down only to a pure-blood.[1]
History[]
In the summer of 1996, the Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Albus Dumbledore, mentioned it to Harry Potter in 4 Privet Drive when he talked about Sirius Black's last will and testament, which stated that Harry Potter inherited everything in his will. Albus Dumbledore stated that he and the Order members had to temporarily vacate 12 Grimmauld Place because of the possible existence of this spell or enchantment. Albus Dumbledore stated to Harry that he was uncertain that the various protective enchantments that he and the Order members had set up around the place would hold if ownership had passed from Sirius Black to Bellatrix Lestrange.[1]
