Qui LeBlanc was a half-vampire witch and photographer for the British Ministry of Magic. She was tasked with photographing Professor Luna Scamander's Field Studies class, but also secretly worked with Kellen Carrion to obtain rare magical creatures.

Biography

Early life

Qui was born to a vampire father and a witch mother. Her father disappeared before she was born and her mother was murdered by a vampire when she was eight years old. She was accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but she declined and she was home-schooled.

During her life, Qui studied magical creatures around the globe. She spent some time in Burkina Faso studying the Runespoor, and saw traps set up by poachers to capture Nogtails in Brazil. At some point, she started working with Kellen Carrion in his group of wizard poachers to collect rare and dangerous magical creatures for unknown purposes.

Field Studies

In the 2010s, Qui was tasked by the British Ministry of Magic with taking photos of Professor Luna Scamander's Field Studies class. She arrived early at the desert where the first class would be taking place, but was caught by a thunderstorm, and struggled to reach the campsite. Luna and her students saw her through Omnioculars when she fainted, so they came and took her back. After Qui awoke, she learnt that they were just the people she was looking for, and was also recognised by Luna to be their photographer. She then set off with them to look for the Thunderbird that caused the storm, hoping to capture it with her camera.

Qui fighting the Runespoor

Qui chatted with Cassandra Vole when Luna found some clues and asked the students to investigate. The clues suggested the Thunderbird had been attacked by something large, and they prepared to go find the wounded Thunderbird when Qui talked to an unidentified student about the oddity of Luna and the possible nature of the Thunderbird's fight. Qui later arrived in time when the students were attacked by a Runespoor, and turned its heads against each other to distract it from the students. After they were rescued, she explained the nature of the Runespoor to them, and asked them to give a just-escaped-sudden-death pose for her photo.

After they rendezvoused with Luna and waited for the Thunderbird to appear, Colby Frey was trapped in a cage and saved by the unidentified student. Qui recognised the trap as the work of poachers and felt it was much bigger than the ones she had seen in Brazil.

Qui discovered by the Thunderbird

Later at another place, Robyn Thistlethwaite and the unidentified student saw through Omnioculars a Thunderbird nest on top of a butte far away, and Qui took the latter's hand and Apparated near it. They found three eggs in the nest, and, believing it was a rare opportunity for the student, Qui asked them to take one in their arms while she took a photo of them. However, Luna was not happy to see this when she arrived and thought it was her responsibility to keep her students safe. The Thunderbird then returned and saw her eggs had been tampered with. The student tried to put the egg they had moved back to its place, but the Thunderbird attacked and made them fall down the cliff.

Qui quickly Apparated down and used the Slowing Charm to save the student from the fall, but then asked for the egg. The student took her to be a poacher, but she denied and said it was complicated, insisting that they give her the egg. The student wouldn't comply, and she cast a spell at them, but immediately asked if they were all right. They thought Qui was trying to kill them, but Qui assured them that they wouldn't be having this conversation if she wanted to do it, and summoned the egg from the student's side. She then walked away and muttered to herself about sticking to her job, and gave a last reminder to the student about the "creepy crawly", referring to the Manticores. However, she came back and saved the student from the biggest Manticore before it could deal its devastating blow.

Before she left the desert, she had also gotten some baby Manticores. She brought the Thunderbird egg to a witch she was working with in the Hog's Head Inn, and explained what it would change into. Despite not getting anything from the Runespoor, Qui told her about the Manticores, but the witch disregarded them seeing as it would take a long time for them to grow to maturity. Qui tried to explain her complicated relationship with the students, but the witch was frustrated by what she saw as excuses and decided to make Kellen Qui's partner next time.

Visiting Hogwarts

When called for, she and the others in Kellen Carrion's poacher group met him in the Forbidden Forest while he was investigating the theft of dragon eggs, which he suspected Long Shouren of stealing. He told her that "they" would use the forest to go undetected.

Later on, Qui caught a baby Chinese Fireball while student caring for her was duelling Kellen. Qui tried to Apparate out of the school grounds but was surprised when she couldn't. The student chased her down and told her about the Anti-Apparition Charm on Hogwarts Castle and its grounds. Qui suggested they point her to the school gates to which they responded they would if she dropped the baby dragon.

At that point, the baby dragon was getting upset and she attacked Qui. She was very angry at the dragon for hurting her, calling her a "nasty little beast". Qui then trapped the student and dragon in a wall of fire, knowing the dragon would be unharmed but the student would be killed. The student bested Qui in a duel and escaped with the dragon with the help of Shouren. The fire was put out by the professors of Hogwarts. It's unknown what happened to Qui.

Physical description

LeBlanc had hair that was both white and pink in colour, with dark skin and red eyes. She wore grey hoop earrings with a black work dress. She also had fangs, given that she was half-vampire.

Magical abilities and skills

• Charms: Qui was able to use the Slowing Charm and the Summoning Charm successfully. She was also skilled with Memory Charms.
• Magizoology: Qui had sufficient knowledge of magical creatures such as the Runespoor, having spent time in Burkina Faso studying it and learnt that its heads did not like each other much.
• Apparition: Qui was capable of Apparition, either alone or by taking someone with her.
• Photography: Qui was hired by the British Ministry of Magic to photograph Luna Scamander's Field Studies class.

• Wand: Qui owned a wand that was of an unknown length, wood and core.
• Camera: Qui owned a camera to take her photographs with.

Etymology

Qui is French for "who", and LeBlanc is a French surname which means "the white".
