- "Quietus is a charm used to quieten sounds. It is the counter spell to Sonorus."
- — Description[src]
The Quietening Charm[2] (Quietus) was a charm used to quieten sounds.[1] It was the counter-charm to the Amplifying Charm.[1]
Known uses[]
Ludo Bagman used this in combination with Sonorus to allow himself to speak to the large crowd at the World Cup and at the Triwizard Tournament.
Known practitioners[]
Etymology[]
The incantation is a Latin word meaning "quiet".
Behind the scenes[]
- In LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7, Minerva McGonagall counters the Amplifying Charm used by Lord Voldemort, banishing Voldemort's LEGO head into the Enchanted Ceiling of the Great Hall. This did not occur in the books, however, so it cannot be considered canonical. Nor can the charm's red light within the video game be considered canonical, as the books specify that it has no light.[5]
