The Railview Hotel was a gloomy hotel located on the outskirts of the city of Cokeworth, England. It was owned by a woman. The hotel stocked in crude materials such as musty sheets and poor quality food such as stale cornflakes and cold tinned tomatoes with toast.[1]

History[]

On 29 July 1991, the Dursleys and Harry Potter stayed at the hotel, in room 17, in an attempt to outrun the multitude of letters that persisted to arrive for Harry, summoning him to Hogwarts. The attempt was in vain, as about one hundred letters were delivered to the hotel the following morning. Vernon Dursley disposed of them, then left the hotel, heading for the greater seclusion of a hut on a rock out on the sea.[1]
