The Records Room was a room in Hogwarts Castle where student records were stored.[1]
History[]
It is unknown when this room was first used by the school staff to store student records, but it was in use by 21st century, at which point some of them had even been subjected to an Anti-Cheating Spell to prevent them from being tampered with. As of July 13, 2020,[2] the Headmistress of the day, Minerva McGonagall, gave Calamity Investigators of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force permission to visit the Records Room to look over the student file on Grim Fawley, the wizard thought to be behind the Calamity. Once there, they found that whilst the material was not very useful, curiously enough, the part of Fawley's records that had not been magically secured with the aforementioned spell had been altered, prompting them to restore them.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- If the student records alluded to in the Wizards' Ordinary Magic and Basic Aptitude Test previously available on J. K. Rowling's official site actually exists in-universe, the Records Room might be located somewhere in the Headmaster's Tower, since this test implied that was where the student records was kept.
- In the video game adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, a book containing a list of Hogwarts students and a quill in an inkwell was kept on a stand at the bottom of the staircase of the Viaduct Entrance. Unless these items were, in fact, the Book of Admittance and the Quill of Acceptance, which is unlikely given how they have been established elsewhere to be kept in a small locked tower for safekeeping that were not visited by students and how risky it would be to leave these artefacts in the open where something might happen to them, this book might have been moved to the Records Room by the start of the following year, as it was absent during the video game adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince the following school year.
