A replica of Slytherin's Locket was created by Hermione Granger with the use of the Doubling Charm on 2 September 1997.[1]
History[]
Background information[]
While searching for Voldemort's Horcruxes, Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger learned from Kreacher that Mundungus Fletcher stole Salazar Slytherin's Locket from 12 Grimmauld Place.[2] Harry dispatched Kreacher to find Mundungus, and three days later, he returned with Fletcher in tow. Fletcher told them that the locket had been taken from him by "some Ministry hag", who resembled a toad. After hearing Mundungus's description, Harry, Ron, and Hermione knew that Dolores Umbridge was in possession of the locket.[3]
Recovering Slytherin's Locket[]
Main article: Infiltration of the Ministry of Magic
Harry, Ron, and Hermione decided to break into the Ministry of Magic and retrieve the locket from Umbridge. On 2 September, Harry (disguised as Albert Runcorn), Ron (disguised as Reginald Cattermole), and Hermione (disguised as Mafalda Hopkirk) infiltrated the Ministry of Magic.[4]
Harry and Hermione eventually located Umbridge as she was in charge of conducting the trials of Muggle-born wizards and witches, who were being falsely accused of stealing their magic from "real" wizards. Once Harry reached the courtrooms remaining underneath his Invisibility Cloak, Hermione convinced Umbridge to reveal the locket. Dolores mentioned that it was a family heirloom that related her to the Selwyn family. This enraged Harry as she used the locket to pretend her own "pure-blood" heritage, and he Stunned her and Yaxley. In the fracas, Hermione pocketed the Horcrux and created a replica with the use of the Doubling Charm.[1]
