Rhys Maybury's mother was a witch who lived during the late 20th century and was the mother of Rhys Maybury. At some point during the 1980s she took Rhys to buy a wand. In a separate incident she received a venomous bite, and had to go to St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries for treatment.[2]
