- "Lying there with their eyes wide open! Cold as ice! Still in their dinner things!"
- — The maid, rousing the Little Hangleton villagers after she found the three Riddles dead[src]
The Riddles' maid (fl. 1943) was a Muggle woman who worked in the Riddle House.[2]
Biography[]
This woman was born sometime before 1943, presumably in Great Britain. She likely lived in the village of Little Hangleton in the north of England, and at some point in her later years found work cleaning the Riddle House. At daybreak on a fine day in the summer of 1943, she arrived at the Riddle House expecting to begin work as usual. Instead, she found her masters dead in the drawing-room, with a look of terror on their faces and still wearing their dinner clothes from the night before. The maid fled the place screaming in terror all the way down to the village, rousing all the villagers she saw in her way.[2] Albus Dumbledore later explained the Riddles' deaths to Harry Potter in early 1997.[3]
