RiffTrax is a web-original series of third-party commentaries typically starring Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett, formerly of the historic television series Mystery Science Theater 3000, which mocked notoriously bad films. To date, they have provided commentaries for every Harry Potter film.
The premise of MST3K was about a man shot into space and forced to watch bad movies. In order to keep sanity, the human along with two robots would make jokes throughout the film. The show ran from 1988 to 1999. After the shows run, star Michael J. Nelson wanted to start riffing popular films. MST3K was able to show movies due to little to no copyright or their rights were very cheap to purchase. To get around the rights, RiffTrax sells audio commentaries of the films and has the customer provide the actual movie themselves.
The Harry Potter rifftraxs have a lot of running gags that incorporate the series. The Riffers of Mike, Kevin, and Bill are well versed in the universe of Harry Potter. While Other times, they pretend to not understand anything like how Quidditch is played.
The main gag is the that the wizarding world are all Satan worshipers (Due to the idea that witchcraft is the devil), Hogwarts is a complete death-trap, and calling Hermione a mud-blood anytime she is on screen.
Some of the other gags that range from completely hating Dobby (Dobby in the films is completely CGI which reminds the Riffers of Jar Jar Binks from Star Wars), ripping in to Neville due to how useless he is before Deathly Hallows Part 2. All range of gay jokes due to Dumbledore's confirmed sexuality and snake and noseless jokes about Voldemort. They even come up with ridiculous names when referring to the Dark Lord like calling him 'Bob Snakeface'.
