"He was angry that he had been cheated out of three new victims, for travellers usually drowned in the river."
— Description[src]

This treacherous river featured in the The Tale of the Three Brothers in The Tales of Beedle the Bard.[2][1]

History[]

In the story, the three Peverell brothers (Antioch, Cadmus, Ignotus) travelled down a lonely, winding road when they reached the river. Learned in the magical arts, the brothers conjured a bridge with their wands and proceeded to cross.[2][1]

Halfway through the bridge, however, the enraged spirit of Death appeared and felt cheated as travelers usually drowned into the river. Despite his rage, Death cunningly pretended to congratulate then awarded them with gifts of their own choosing.[2][1]
