- "Today, we'll learn about one of the Muggles' grooviest inventions... Roller Skates!"
- — Professor Sikander introducing Roller Skates to his students in Muggle Studies[src]
Roller Skates, also known as Roller Blades, were Muggle-invented boots fitted with metal frames on the soles with wheels, which allowed the wearer to glide across the floor. Muggles skilled with their use could perform radical dance manouevres. Roller Blades could be quite loud, especially on uneven surfaces.[1]
History[]
- "The first patented roller skates were invented by a Belgian named John Joseph Merlin in 1760."
- — Professor Sikander to Jacob's sibling[src]
The first patented roller skates were invented by John Joseph Merlin, a Belgian, in 1760.[2]
Students observing Roller Skates in the Muggle Studies Classroom
During the 1990–1991 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Professor Arif Sikander taught his seventh-year students about Roller Skates in Muggle Studies, including their history and usage.[1]
The Boggart having been given rollers skates with Riddikulus
When the unidentified Muggle-born Hogwarts student cast the Boggart-Banishing Spell on a Boggart, which took the form of an Acromantula, it was given roller skates.[3]
Appearances[]

- In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (and subsequently its GBA adaptation, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 and Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells), Ronald Weasley banishes his Boggart in the form of Aragog by comically giving it roller skates, making it unable to move properly.[4] However in the book, he simply makes his Boggart lose its legs.[5] The idea of an Acromantula Boggart being given roller skates is also made into Harry Potter: Magic Awakened.
