Victor Rookwood: "Have you not acquired enough power here? I allowed you to tunnel under my family home –"
Ranrok: "ALLOWED ME? You are here only because you are descended from a 'Keeper' and may at some point inadvertently become valuable. We had an agreement. I will share with you the power that I discovered if you locate the stores of magic that are yet to be found."
Victor Rookwood and Ranrok arguing over the castle.[src]

Rookwood Castle was a castle that overlooked the hamlet of Feldcroft in the Highlands of Scotland. By 1890, it was a ruin.[1]

History[]

The castle was the home of Charles Rookwood, the professor of Transfiguration at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during the Tudor period. It became the home of successive generations of the Rookwood family. A repository of ancient magic was hidden beneath the castle.[2]

It was presumably abandoned by the 1880s, as Miriam Fig was able to set up an improvised research site at the castle. She had acquired an interest in the location during her research into the secrets of ancient magic. There, she met Lodgok, and permitted him to search the castle on his own. Lodgok located the repository beneath the castle and brought Ranrok's Loyalists to the site.[3] Ranrok used the repository to give himself the power of ancient magic, and by 1890, it had been fully depleted, though Ranrok's Loyalists still had an active presence in the area.[2]

During the 1890–1891 school year, Eleazar Fig and his student infiltrated the castle at the behest of Charles Rookwood's portrait. Together, they saw the depleted repository and then ascended to the upper storeys so that the student could complete Charles' 'trial'.[2]
