A paddock of Diricawls was owned by Rubeus Hagrid, the Professor of Care of Magical Creatures, since some point in or before 2011. The paddock, located in Hagrid's pumpkin patch, consisted of at least seven Diricawls.[1]
Biography[]
Amidst all the preparation for the Intercontinental Wizard's Cup in the 2011–2012 school year, Hagrid accidentally left the Diricawl paddock open, causing the birds to escape.[1]
Later, Daniel Page discovered one of the Diricawls causing a disruption in the Potions Classroom and asked a fellow student to recapture it before any of Professor Slughorn's potion ingredients were damaged. The student, assigned to capture the bird, noticed an ingredient bottle wobbling, revealing the location of the first Diricawl.[1]
The second escaped Diricawl was witnessed by Ivy Warrington in the Great Hall, bustling under the teachers' table. She then asked the same student to capture the Diricawl. The student, upon their arrival at the hall, caught a glimpse of a chair seemingly moving around on its own. Curious, they followed the chair and found the Diricawl.[1]
Sometime later, while practising flying his broomstick, Kevin Farrell saw a Diricawl appear and disappear in the Quidditch Tent. He promptly informed Robyn Thistlethwaite, a fellow Gryffindor who had been helping him with his flight practice. Robyn then told the student who had captured the first two Diricawls about Kevin's sighting, leading them to go to the Hogwarts Quidditch pitch. After discussing the situation, the student entered the pitch and managed to find and recapture the third Diricawl.[1]
Afterwards, the student was called to a Hogwarts greenhouse by Cassandra Vole, a Slytherin. She upsettingly claimed she had seen a Diricawl and nearly tripped over it, almost spilling a costly potion she was carrying for her Venomous Tentacula, Clementine. The student subsequently searched for the bird, and succeeded in finding the fourth Diricawl.[1]
The fifth Diricawl was spotted by Violet Williams, an Ilvermorny student who had arrived at Hogwarts earlier for the Intercontinental Wizard’s Cup. She told the same student that, while she was enjoying a walk with her pet Crup, Nono, the Crup noticed the bird and chased after it. As a result, the Diricawl leapt into the Boathouse, where it was eventually found by the student.[1]
In no time, the student was summoned once again, this time by Kenji Kobayashi, a student from Mahoutokoro who had come to Hogwarts for the same reason as Violet from Ilvermorny. He claimed to have seen another Diricawl mingling among the giant storm petrels of Mahoutokoro, which were staying by the Great Lake, and it had agitated them. After a bit of investigation, the student discovered the sixth Diricawl behind a dense bush.[1]
Later, another student from Ilvermorny, Viggo Victor, encountered the seventh Diricawl near Hagrid's Hut while practising spells for the Intercontinental Competition, the very reason for his visit to Hogwarts. He called the same student over in a boisterous manner and rudely requested, with a rather impolite disposition, that the bird be removed from his practice area. The student then searched the surrounding bushes and found the seventh and last Diricawl.[1]
All seven Diricawls were eventually found, and the student managed to capture each one and successfully bring them back to Hagrid.[1]
