This scroll was made by Salazar Slytherin. On it was written the incantation to break the curse which was affecting the bearer of his compass.[1]
Contents[]
Vipera Totalum Evanesca. Virga Revelio.
History[]
The silver case the scroll was hidden in
The scroll was made at some point in the Middle Ages by Salazar Slytherin. He placed the scroll inside of a silver scroll case, which he threw into the lake, where it was cared for by Horace, the Giant Squid.
During the late 1980s, Jacob's sibling acquired the scroll from Horace. Everett Avery was also looking for the scroll, although he didn't realise it was located in the Great Lake, as he thought it was located within the ballroom. Jacob's sibling brought it with them when they confronted Everett in the ballroom, by which time he was in danger of dying from the curse. After using the two keys to unlock the scroll case, Jacob's sibling read the incantation located on the scroll and broke the curse, revealing the snakewood tree branch.
Behind the scenes[]
- The two incantations written on the scroll are variations of existing spells. Vipera Totalum Evanesca is based on Vipera Evanesca, the Snake-Vanishing Spell, and Virga Revelio is a variation of the Revelio Charm.
- Totalum is Latin for total, and Virga is Latin for stick.
