A Screaming Yo-yo was a magical toy that presumably shrieked when a person played with it.[2]
History[]
During a History of Magic class in the 1988–1989 school year, Nymphadora Tonks dared Jacob's sibling to use a Screaming Yo-yo to get Professor Binns's attention. The attempt failed.[3]
Argus Filch added the Yo-yos to the list of items forbidden at Hogwarts at the start of the 1994–1995 school year.[2]
Screaming Yo-yos were sold at Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes for a price of five Galleons.[1] Fred and George Weasley caught a boy trying to steal one of these and warned him that if he did so, he would be paying in more than Galleons.[4]
Screaming Yo-yos became Foundables during the Calamity in the late 2010s/early 2020s, that had to be dealt with by members of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force by returning them to their original place in the wizarding world.[5]
Behind the scenes[]
- Screaming Yo-yos are available for purchase at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Just as the name suggests, they scream when used.
