- "The whole point of keeping the school open at this time is for you to receive your education. The exams will therefore take place as usual, and I trust you are all studying hard."
- — Minerva McGonagall regarding the second year exams[src]
All second-year students at Hogwarts were required to complete a set of examinations to get into the third year. There was one exam for each subject.[1] However, in the 1992–1993 school year the exams were cancelled, due to the events involving Salazar Slytherin's Basilisk and the Chamber of Secrets.[2]
