"Sextants at the ready! We've only a short window of time in which to record these measurements..."
Aurora Sinistra[src]

A sextant was an instrument used to measure the angular distance between two visible objects;[1] it was primarily used in the study of astronomy.[2]

History[]

During the 1989–1990 school year and 1990–1991 school year, sextants were often used in Astronomy classes at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.[2]
