The Siege of Hogwarts[3] took place at Hogwarts Castle in the 2010–2011 school year, in which Hogwarts staff, students and alumni fought against many magical creatures led by Dementors. Seemingly orchestrated by the Nocturnal Order of Tricks and Magical Exhibitions, it marked the first time Dementors were seen engaging in mass attack after they were dismissed from Azkaban.[1]
The siege[]
During the 2010–2011 school year, Dementors started to attack Hogwarts. While the professors did the best they could to rescue students from them, they continued to grow in number, even summoning other Dark creatures to attack alongside them. The professors then assembled in the Viaduct Courtyard and put up a magical shield around the castle. The suits of armour were also animated to defend the school from the creatures.[1]
One day, a big battle finally broke out. Over the course of the battle, the participants withstood three waves of attack; the first two of which involved an assortment of different creatures, led by a Thunderbird and a Basilisk, respectively. In the last wave, there were nothing but Dementors.[1]
The battle resulted in victory on Hogwarts's side. When the creatures were mostly banished from the castle, Harry Potter joined the fight and summoned a powerful Patronus that ended the battle. The members of NOTME watching the battle from afar silently admitted their defeat. Harry, on behalf of the Ministry, promised that they would look into the case.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- The event was released for the one-year anniversary of the Chinese version of Harry Potter: Magic Awakened. The final battle took place between 2 October and 4 October 2022, lasting for two hours in each day. The outcome of this battle was decided by all the players who participated in the battle.
- Although released after the main storyline of year 3, it cannot be set afterwards from an in-universe perspective, due to the main characters having not yet mastered the Patronus Charm while showing proficiency of casting it in the last chapter of year 3. It may actually serve as a great in-universe explanation of why the third-year students feel the need of practising such an advanced spell at a very young age.
- The alternate outcome of the battle was that the participants failed to defend the castle, and while students stayed in the Great Hall, Neville went to call for backup, who would arrive half an hour later and defeat the Dementors. An animation would then play, which included Elliot Evers revealing himself as a member of NOTME by taking off his mask. This was what happened in the early access servers, in which the events were scheduled days ahead.[4]
- The song "Wands Up!" was made for this event and slated to be played if the battle was won, during which credits rolled that displayed the names of the players who contributed the most to the battle. There's also a ballroom version available after the battle, alongside a new minuet called "Bare Confessions" which may have been intended to echo the loss of the battle should the alternate ending occur.
