Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, a Knight, wizard, and ghost
Sir, with the female equivalent Dame, was a non-hereditary noble title that typically ranked higher than "Esquire", but lower than Baron. An individual had to be granted the title of Sir or Dame by being knighted; however, it was also used as a formal form of address.[1]
