This boys' bathroom was located on the sixth floor of Hogwarts Castle, on the passageway by the marble stairs leading to the seventh-floor corridor.[1][2]

History[]

Throughout the 1996–1997 school year, Draco Malfoy would go to the washroom to find company with Moaning Myrtle, confiding the stress of his mission and fear of failing it.[1][2]

On 17 March 1997, after Defence Against the Dark Arts class with Severus Snape, Ronald Weasley and Harry Potter walked into this bathroom while discussing the upcoming Apparition tests. There, they found Myrtle Warren expecting a young boy to come in. The ghost revealed that the youth was very upset and had been confiding in her and when Harry asked her who he was, she told him that she had sworn to take his secret to the grave. But before she could finish her sentence, Ron interrupted saying that this is not much as she was already dead, and that she would do it "more like to the sewers" — upsetting the ghost who, with a howl of rage, left the bathroom.[1]

Sectumempra Curse

The use of Sectumsempra in the bathroom

About a month later, Harry, who had been looking for Draco Malfoy (whom he suspected of being working for the Death Eaters from inside the Castle) in the Marauder's Map, found that the boy was in this bathroom in the company of Myrtle. As Harry quitely pushed the door open, he listened as Draco cried and as Myrtle offered to help him. Realising that Harry had been listening, Draco drew his wand, starting a duel, causing various sinks to shatter from their spells. When Draco attempted to utilise the Cruciatus Curse, Harry retaliated with Sectumsempra, a spell he remembered having read about in the Half-Blood Prince's copy of Advanced Potion-Making, which caused deep slashes across Draco, heavily wounding him and causing him to fall to the waterlogged floor, his blood floating like crimson flowers on its surface. As Harry panicked, Myrtle screamed for murder, Severus Snape arrived at the scene, and healed Draco, but had to take the boy to the Hospital Wing. Snape returned to confront Harry for the assault, and, failing to get Harry to confess to the source of the curse, gave him a multitude of detentions as punishment. Harry was then given detention with Snape for every Saturday until the end of term.[2]
