This skirmish occurred on 1 September 1890 in Vault 12 at Gringotts Wizarding Bank.

History

Finding Vault 12

Following Ranrok's deadly attack on the carriage holding George Osric, Eleazar Fig, and the new fifth-year student, the student and Fig were transported via portkey to the ruins of Percival Rackham's house. There, they found an ancient magic entrance to Gringotts. They were brought by the banker stationed inside the private entrance to Vault 12, where they were followed by a Gringotts Guard, under the orders of Ranrok.

After Fig and the student worked their way through the various puzzles that the Keepers had planted, they finally reached the heart of Vault 12, where a Pensieve showed the student a memory of the Keepers healing the village of Feldcroft from a draught. It was then that Fig realised the student had the power of ancient magic, the knowledge of which George Osric, and his late wife Miriam Fig, had died in the pursuit of.

The confrontation with Ranrok

Their conversation was interrupted by Ranrok, the guard and Belgruff the Bludgeoner, who burst in through the vault's doors. Ranrok demanded that they gave him whatever they obtained from the vault, before murdering the banker who had only been trying to stick to the instructions he had received. When Fig refused to give Ranrok anything, the two entered into a duel, with Ranrok blasting Fig and the student back.

A Pensieve Guardian was then activated which fought Ranrok, while Fig and the student escaped through a doorway that led them to Hogwarts Castle, just in time for the Sorting Ceremony.
