Slippers are footwear intended for indoors.[1] Some wizardkind use their wands to fetch their slippers.[13] A transfiguration spell existed that could turn a pair of rabbits into slippers.[14][15]
History[]
In The Tales of Beedle the Bard, a father left his son a single soft, thick slipper too small to wear, with a note hoping that he would never need it.[16]
Hepzibah Smith wore a pair of tight satin slippers for her meeting with Tom Riddle which took place sometime between 1955 and 1961.[2]
Dudley Dursley owned a pair of green, dinosaur shaped slippers, which he wore while staying at the Hut-on-the-Rock in late June 1991.[12]
In 1992, Hermione Granger stared at her slippers while being questioned by Minerva McGonagall, after she and Harry Potter were caught by Argus Filch for being out of bed after hours.[3]
In late May 1993, Harry Potter struggled to transform a pair of rabbits into rabbit slippers in Transfiguration.[14]
In late summer 1993, many wizards and witches in dressing gowns and slippers came down from the upper floors of the Knight Bus in order to leave.[17]
In early 1994, Neville Longbottom was wearing fluffy slippers while raising his hand to admit to writing down the week's passwords to the Gryffindor common room.[4]
In August 1994, the morning following the reappearance of the Dark Mark at the 1994 Quidditch World Cup, Molly Weasley greeted everyone in the front yard, still wearing her bedroom slippers.[6]
Late in 1994, Harry Potter wore slippers to the Prefects' Bathroom while trying to figure out the Golden egg clue to the second task of the Triwizard Tournament.[5]
On 2 August 1995, Arabella Figg wore a pair of tartan carpet slippers while coming to the aid of Harry Potter and Dudley Dursley after they were attacked by two dementors.[7][8]
Arabella Figg again wore her carpet slippers when appearing at the disciplinary hearing of Harry Potter held at the British Ministry of Magic on 12 August 1995.[9]
On 1 September 1995, Dean Thomas was retrieving a slipper from his trunk in the Gryffindor Boys' Dormitory when an argument broke out between Seamus Finnigan and Harry Potter.[18]
In the aftermath of the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, on 18 June 1996, Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge, having seen that Lord Voldemort had returned, was so startled by Albus Dumbledore that he jumped and his slipper-clad feet left the floor.[10]
Madam Rosemerta was wearing high-heeled, fluffy slippers when she spotted Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore Apparate onto the High Street in Hogsmeade, struggling to return from The Cave on 30 June 1997.[11]
Behind the scenes[]
- "Neville's fluffy slippers" was one out of the thirty-two options generated by an old feature[19] on Pottermore, "Wonderful wizarding world happiness generator", which was about things that could cast away the Blue Monday blues.[20]
- The description was "We all need some home comforts every now and then, so good on Neville for rocking these fluffy slippers".[21]
