Slytherin's Spellbook was a book of spells written by Salazar Slytherin.

The Spellbook argued that students should be willing to use Dark Arts in a time when the Unforgivable Curses were legal. The spellbook also contained references to a lost relic that could cure Dark Magic curses. The book mentioned a diligent student who had a satchel filled with notes.

History

It was kept within Slytherin's Scriptorium and discovered nine hundred years later by Sebastian Sallow, Ominis Gaunt, and a student. The book became one of Sebastian's prized possessions. Through it, he discovered the Imperius Curse and the existence of a relic with the power not only to summon Inferi, but which could cure curses with a sacrifice. This was especially important to Sebastian, as his sister, Anne, had been cursed by Victor Rookwood two years prior and he had become desperate for a cure.

The destruction of the spellbook

When Sebastian brought Anne to the Feldcroft Catacomb hoping to cure her, it led to an altercation between Sebastian and their uncle, Solomon Sallow, who was distraught at his nephew's use of Dark Magic. After Solomon was murdered by Sebastian, the only known copy of the book was ultimately destroyed with the Bombardment Spell by a frustrated Anne, much to Sebastian's outrage.

Behind the scenes

• Like Slytherin's Diary and the notes left by Salazar Slytherin's student, this spellbook would have most likely been written in Old English, Latin, or Early Scots based on its time period, so it is interesting that Sebastian Sallow is able to read it in the 19th century.
