The Small Locked Tower[1] is one of the many towers at Hogwarts Castle, housing the Book of Admittance and the Quill of Acceptance, the magical artefacts that constitute the only process by which students are selected for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.[2]

The tower has never been visited by any student at Hogwarts, in the thousand-odd years of the school's existence, and the magical artefacts therein have never been touched by human hands ever since the Founders placed them there on completion of the Castle. Many Headermasters and Headmistresses have, however, enjoyed spending quiet hours in the tower, hoping to catch the Book and the Quill in action.[2]

Behind the scenes

  • Before Pottermore was significantly revamped (and Rowling's description of the Book of Admittance and the Quill of Acceptance was added), the Book and Quill's tower was the background of the Signed-out Homepage. For the new "sample moment", the illustration has had some slight changes made to it, in order to be more compliant to Rowling's information. The old version of the tower is still visible on the registration page for new accounts, however.
