Smith is the surname of a wizarding family that descends from Helga Hufflepuff[1], one of the founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Their family heirloom, Helga Hufflepuff's Cup, was stolen from Hepzibah Smith by Tom Marvolo Riddle, who then turned it into one of his Horcruxes. It was eventually destroyed by Hermione Granger, who stabbed it with a Basilisk fang.[2]
