A snail is a mollusk with a coiled shell.[4] Streelers are a magical variety of snails.[1]
History[]
During the 1993–1994 school year, a time-travelling Hermione Granger threw a shell, resembling that from a snail, into Hagrid's hut, which struck Harry Potter in the back of the head.[5]
In the 1995–1996 school year, snails were used in Transfiguration class as part of the Vanishing Spell curriculum. As an invertebrate, they presented less of a challenge in vanishing than a vertebrate like a mouse, though it was still considered some of the most challenging magic of its type.[6][7]
