- "The 'Snake Summons' spell originated in India and is often illicitly used today by wizards who are called by the Muggle moniker, 'Snake Charmers.'"
- — History of the Snake Summons Spell, Cast-a-Spell handbook[1]
A Snake Charmer was a name used by Muggles to describe a witch or wizard who travelled from place-to-place performing magic with snakes. They often illegally used the Snake Summons Spell in their work.
History[]
As their work was illicit for breaking the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, the Indian Ministry of Magic presumably punished them for their profession.
Some Snake Charmers also worked by enchanting a rope to move as though it were a snake. One such charmer visited the Leaky Cauldron during the summer of 1993.[2]
