Snakewood[1] (German: Schlangenholz)[2] is a common name for various trees that have a wavy grain in their wood. It most commonly refers to trees in the genus Brosimum.[3]
Snakewood had magical properties, and could be used as a wand wood. Garrick Ollivander did not use the wood, but Mykew Gregorovitch did, selling at least one wand using the wood in his wand shop.[2] Salazar Slytherin crafted his wand from snakewood.[1] Jacob Kowalski's fake wand gifted to him from Albus Dumbledore was also made from snakewood.[4]
Some magical snakewood trees resisted attempts to prune or kill them, and their leaves had powerful healing properties. One such tree grew outside the grounds of Ilvermorny.[1]
