This tree branch was cut by Salazar Slytherin from the same snakewood tree that produced the wood which his wand was made of. As Slytherin's wand was extremely powerful, people believed that a wand made from this branch would be equally as powerful, making it a highly coveted relic.
History[]
Slytherin cut this branch when he made his first wand and took it back to Hogwarts with him. For unknown reasons, he hid the branch and placed a powerful curse on those who would try to find it. Over time, a legend grew around the branch and it became a cult artefact for those that admired Slytherin's work.
By the 1980s, a Hufflepuff student named Everett Avery wanted to seek out the relic to prove he belonged in Slytherin instead of Hufflepuff. However, in doing so, he accidentally triggered the curse and endangered not only his life, but the lives of everyone at Hogwarts. Jacob's sibling managed to work with him to break the curse and gave the branch to the faculty of Hogwarts to keep safe.[1]
