"...and redirecting his wand away from the ceiling from which, sure enough, large white flakes had started to fall."
— Accidental use of the spell[src]

The Snowflake-Making Spell[2] (incantation unknown) was a Weather-Modifying Charm that created snow.[1]

History[]

Merula Snyde had fond memories of this spell, as it was the only spell her aunt had taught her that couldn't be used to harm someone. They would cast the spell every Christmas, a tradition which Merula kept up when she attended Hogwarts.[3]

During the 1984–1985 school year Christmas holidays, Merula taught Jacob's sibling this spell so they could put on a show for Molly and Arthur Weasley in the Great Hall. Later that day, Jacob's sibling performed the spell, with everyone finding it quite lovely.[3]

Just before the 1985 Christmas holidays, Jacob's sibling attempted an amplified version of this spell and inadvertently caused a blizzard that shut down the Hogwarts Express, almost disrupting the holiday plans of the entire school. When they confessed this to Professor Flitwick, he taught them the counter-spell, which the student successfully cast.[2]

This spell was used unintentionally by Ronald Weasley in 1996. He used it whilst practising the spell to turn vinegar into wine in Charms, due to his being distracted by talking to Harry Potter.[1]
