- "I'll never apologise to you losers and Mudbloods! I'm Merula Snyde! Fourth generation Slytherin! The greatest witch at Hogwarts! I do what I want when I want! I run this school!"
- — Merula Snyde's high opinion of herself[src]
Snyde was the surname of a British wizarding family. They were most likely either pure-blooded or half-blooded, as two members of the family were supporters of Lord Voldemort. Four generations of Snydes had been Sorted into Slytherin as of 1984.
History[]
The Snydes tried for years to find and steal the Sword of Gryffindor, but failed each time. According to rumours, they have obsessed over the same clue for centuries. Years ago, some Snyde read that they would find the sword if they went "back to the source". The Snydes thought that the clue had something to do with the goblins who forged the sword. However, on the eve of Hallowe'en in 1986, Merula Snyde suggested that the sword might have been buried with Godric Gryffindor. She was never able to find the sword, but ran into its creator, King Ragnuk the First.[1]
According to Merula Snyde, the Snydes were able to afford their daughter an expensive broom, owned a unicorn at one point, and had/has jewelled shells which resided in the Snyde family vault within Gringotts, suggesting that the Snyde family was quite wealthy.[2]
