A number of Sphinxes guarded the vaults of Gringotts Wizarding Bank in replacement of the Gringott's Dragon following its escape[1] in May 1998.[2]
Biography[]
Mallory Twiddle sent a letter to the Daily Prophet complaining about how he had been surprised by the change and ultimately unable to access his vault because of the difficult riddles asked by a Sphinx guarding it, and wished they would go back to the old arrangement.[1]
