A diagram of this manoeuvre
- "Grab your brooms, students! And listen up. Sometimes the best offence is a good defence. So, today we'll learn to disengage, using the Split S manoeuvre. I am now going to go over proper broomstick techniques once again."
- — Madam Hooch to seventh-years[src]
Split S was the name of an advanced defensive flying technique. It was performed when the flyer reversed their broom to make a downward half-loop, reversing their flight path.[1]
History[]
During the 1990–1991 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Madam Hooch taught her seventh-year Flying students how to perform this technique in class.[1]
